WE INTERVIEW AMAZING WOMEN FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE IN OUR PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP, BOUNCELAB. HERE'S AN EXCERPT FROM OUR INTERVIEW WITH SAM MONTPETIT-HUYNH, OWNER OF SAM CORE TRAINER, ABOUT WHY WOMEN NEED TO FOCUS ON THEIR CORE.

Everyone talks about the core, but how do you really make it strong (hint: it's not by doing 1,000 crunches)? Samantha Montpetit-Huynh, owner of Sam Core Trainer, tells us why our core is so important, especially for prenatal and postpartum women.

"I had a baby and then I had another one. I looked down and thought: what happened, what just happened? Why am I not bouncing back again? What's going on with my abdominals? I found out about a condition called Diastasis Rectus Abdominis (DRA) or "mummy tummy" when your muscles separate," says Sam.

She's not the first woman to discover the hard way how your body can change after a baby – even years after. It became clear to Sam that there's a significant lack of education and support when it comes to motherhood and how our bodies are expected to perform after we give birth.

"I was teaching classes to new moms and their babies then and (when I learned about mommy tummy) I changed everything. As a health professional, I didn't know this, so how would the layman moms know this? It's all about core and pelvic health, and changing this mindset about what fitness is after pregnancy and birth," she says.

Sam has over 15 years experience working with pregnant women and new moms and provides specialized training for women who suffer from incontinence (leaking urine), prolapse, diastasis recti (separation of the rectus abdominis), pelvic pain, hip pain and more.
