Incorporating green fitness strategies into your workout routine only takes a bit of effort but can have a big impact on the environment. If you're not already factoring the environment into your exercise regimen, here are a few tips to get your started!

Tips to Make Your Fitness Routine Eco-Chic  

1. Refillable Water Bottle 
Instead of buying bottled water, bring your own reusable water bottle and refill it from the water fountain, or bring it filled with water from home. 

2. People-Powered Movements
Many standard gym machines run on electricity. Treadmills are power hogs, and use on average 600-700 watts of electricity per hour, and consume more power as they age. Convert your sweat to energy: many elliptical machines and stationary bikes are self-powered – as are walking and free weights! 

3. Sustainable Gyms 
Many sustainable gyms market their eco-friendly policies to consumers so keep an eye to see if there's one in your neighborhood or city. Some eco-friendly gym practices include: 

• Green roofs with sod and plantings
• Solar panels and wind power
• Gym equipment that generate electricity
• VOC free paint
• Eco-friendly cleaning product

4. Playlists Not TV Tubes 
Watching a television while on your cardio machine uses far more power per hour than your phone, so plug into your fave podcast or playlist while you sweat.

5. Organic Fibers and Materials
Organic clothing materials such as cotton or bamboo, and yoga mats made from sustainable materials, are abundantly available in stores and online. Some green retailers also offer options to recycle your old gym mats and running shoes. 

5. The Great Outdoors
If gyms aren't your thing, you can embrace the environment by heading outdoors for a hike, bike ride, run or yoga session and get your daily dose of Vitamin D while you're at it!

Incorporating green strategies into your fitness routine doesn't take much planning or preparation but can go a long way to making our world greener while you exercise!
